- Does llms.txt actually work?
- The honest answer: not on its own. In June 2026 Google stated that llms.txt has no direct effect on search results, and large-scale studies found no lift in citations. What actually drives AI recommendations is directory data, reviews and structured data on your site. llms.txt does not replace those; it is a cheap extra step that makes your business details clear and machine-readable.
- Where do I put the file?
- In your site root, so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress you can upload it to the main folder via FTP or your hosting file manager; some hosted platforms limit root-level file uploads.
- Do you store what I enter?
- No. Your details are used to build the file and are not saved. The tool does not ask you to sign in either.
